Staffordshire Rescue Scotland all Scotland.
If you would like to foster or adopt a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, all homes and dogs will be vetted to ensure you home is suitable as a lifelong home/foster home for one of the many Staffies we have in rescue. We operate on a home-from-home basis - we do not have a rehoming centre with dogs in kennels where people can view the dogs. We do not have continually manned telephones as we are all volunteers. ALL homes will be home checked. We ask for a donation that we set if your home-check is successful and you choose to go ahead with adopting a dog. This helps towards the costs of neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, flea and worming treatment and transport costs.

SGSScottish Greyhound Sanctuary All Scotland
Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary is devoted to rescuing and rehoming greyhounds and lurchers in need. Along with the wonderful online community and many volunteers, SGS are passionate about the welfare of greyhounds and are committed to raising awareness of the plight of these beautiful animals. All dogs that are rehomed by SGS will be neutered (where possible), microchipped and will come with homing pack which will include a leather collar and a muzzle. If you are thinking about rehoming a greyhound or lurcher we suggest that you do as much research and reading as you can about the breed and what you need to know about rehoming a retired racing greyhound. To help you with your reading we have some help sheets and a section of Frequently Asked Questions that may help you get started. Please join the forum, or visit our Facebook page (no login required) to find out everything that is happening at Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary and get involved. Alternatively, you can contact us about volunteering, fundraising, sponsoring a kennel or adopting a greyhound or lurcher.

Dog Action Working Group Scotland Kingswells, Aberdeen.
As a dog welfare charity we find loving new homes for unwanted and abandoned dogs throughout the North East of Scotland. Well over 2,000 dogs and puppies have been given the chance of a new life since we began helping homeless hounds back in 1994. We aim to find our dogs loving new homes by working to a re-homing policy, which matches each dog's individual needs, characteristics and traits with the most suitable new owner and living environment. To achieve this we need to ask prospective owners a few simple questions, which are followed up by an informal visit to your home. If you have owned a pet before we may need to ask for a vet's reference. Most vets are familiar with the procedure and are happy to help. Our procedure is aimed to benefit both dog and prospective owner so your help and patience is much appreciated.

Banff & Aberdeenshire Rescue & Rehoming Kennels Banff, Aberdeenshire
BARRK is a network of 20 to 30 volunteers covering rural Aberdeenshire north of Aberdeen, and Morayshire. In exceptional circumstances we will accept dogs from anywhere in the north of Scotland including the Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland. In places where we have no volunteers (apart from Aberdeen where we liaise with DAWGS) we will only home where we can take up a veterinarian's reference (e.g. where a dog has recently died).

We accept dogs for rehoming from individuals whose circumstances mean they can no longer give them a home. We do not take in strays. Where possible dogs are fostered until a new home is found. A very small number of dogs are kennelled at any of 3 commercial kennels with whom we have year round arrangements. Most dogs on our rehoming list at any time will still be with their original owners.

Individuals contact us requesting a dog. Initial screening is carried out by telephone. We require Someone to be with the dog most of each day (maximum left regularly about 4 hours in total) A secure garden (if in a village or town or near a busy road) The dog to be kept in the house as a pet. Note that we are not often able to home a dog into a home with children under the age of 6 years as we do not always know how the dog will react, and we will not take risks in this regard

Borders Pet Rescue Earlston.
We have been dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of domestic pets in the Scottish Borders since 1989. We find suitable loving homes for abandoned and unwanted pets and to promote responsible pet ownership through education and training. We are a registered Scottish charity and rely entirely on your generosity to support our work. Each year we re-home in excess of 200 animals and we aim to improve our capacity and facilities so that we can better meet the needs of our local community. We take in unwanted, abandoned and lost animals (cats, dogs and all kinds of small furry things). Where necessary, we provide veterinary care and behavioural training to give our animals the best chance of finding a new home. And, through our re-homing process, we strive to ensure that each new home best suits the needs of each individual animal.

Dog Rescues in Caithness

KWK9 Rescue Caithness, North Sutherland and Orkney.
Please remember that all our helpers are volunteers. We will get back to you as soon as we can but at times there may be a delay. You can also send a message on Facebook or by email but please note that if you wish to adopt a dog you will be asked to complete an adoption form.

We are in desperate need of foster homes for our dogs. The input of foster carers is vital for the dogs we take in. It gives us a chance to assess the dog so that we can do our best to match the dog to the right home. It also gives the dog a chance to settle down, gain confidence and all too often health, before they move to their new and permanent home. Most dogs only stay in foster care for a short time, one or two weeks and it is our aim to find new homes for dogs as fast as possible. We do occasionally get a dog that needs a bit longer but not that often. We have one foster carer who has not been without a foster dog all year. It would be nice to be able to give him a break from time to time. If we can get a large enough bank of foster carers it would mean that we could ask for help from time to time but not often. If you think you might be able to help and you live in Caithness, North Sutherland or Orkney please complete an adoption form specifying that you are interested in fostering and we will be in contact to talk about it.

Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre Glencaple, Dumfries.
Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre is a registered charity opened in March 2003 on the site of rescue kennels formerly run by another charity. A group of local people, supported by the local media and residents of Dumfries and Galloway, set out to raise sufficient funds to keep a dog rescue and rehoming facility in Dumfries and Galloway. Our rescue centre services the whole of Dumfries and Galloway but, when space permits, we will take in dogs from pounds in England and from Northern Ireland to save them from destruction. We have a contract with our local council to look after stray dogs while they wait to be reclaimed by their owners and to rehome them if they are not claimed. We are licensed by the local authority for the care of dogs. We take in around 350 dogs a year and have consistently rehomed about 300 during each year of our operations to date. We are very proud that there are a great many people whose lives have been enriched by the companionship given by one of our dogs. Our web site has enabled us to reach out beyond Dumfries and Galloway and we have rehomed dogs from Dorset to Orkney.

Fife Rottweiler Rescue Fife
We are a small group of volunteers who are dedicated to rescuing and re-homing these beautiful, gentle dogs. Rotties are a much misunderstood breed, and we are sometimes asked "Why do you bother rescuing rotties?" All the dogs that come into our care are fostered in the home of a volunteer, before they are put up for adoption. This allows us to accurately assess each dog, and we can then match each dog to its most suitable forever home. While the dog is in our care, it will be checked over by a vet, neutered, vaccinated, wormed, de-fleaed and microchipped. Any veterinary treatment that is required will also be given. As a volunteer rescue, we rely heavily on donations to allow us to continue our work, rescuing and re-homing the beautiful, loving, loyal and gentle animals.

Second Chance Association is a registered charity (Reg number SCO32203), and was founded in 1994. After five years of fund raising and a lot of very hard work we opened the kennel doors on 2nd May 1999. Our fund raising events are a very important part of our charity. All monies raised go directly towards the upkeep of the dogs and helps to ensure that the Second Chance Kennels are maintained adequately for the job. We hold regular fundraising events and always welcome new ideas and/or helpers. If you think you can help in any way with our events, please contact us. Click here for news of events.

The need for elderly dogs to be re-homed has presented itself many times. An older dog, who is loving, loyal and healthy but has an owner who is too old to cope, needs a stable environment in which to adjust. To this end, our elderly dogs reside in the 'Waiting for God' kennels. They are looked after here for the rest of their natural lives or until such time as someone comes along who is looking for an older dog. You can see our current list of dogs needing homes here.

Take a dog for a walk!

Need something to do? Why not take a dog for a walk. The kennels are situated in Thornton, near Kirkcaldy, on the east coast of scotland. We are surrounded by farm land and country walks, ideal for taking the dogs for a stroll.

German Shepherd Rescue Scotland Elgin, Moray, Inverness-shire
German Shepherd Rescue Scotland was established in 2008 to re-home German Shepherd dogs throughout Scotland. We are a registered charity, and rely solely on donations to cover the costs of rescuing dogs, these include kennelling, transportation and expensive veterinary fees. Although we cover the whole of Scotland we also work closely with other German Shepherd rescue organisations.

Our aim is to ensure that all rescue dogs are re-homed and are safe, secure and well loved (the right dog for the right home). This process entails a complete assessment of each dog by our experienced volunteers, and includes a call to the veterinary practice the dog is registered with to obtain as much information as possible about the dog. Everything we do is to the best of our capabilities, with the new owner's and the dog's best interests at heart.

Once assessed the dog will be placed with an adoptee who will have been carefully checked, including a home check and a vet reference to ensure that everything is suitable for the dog and its new family. Our responsibility does not end there, we are always happy to give advice on all aspects of dog care and behaviour, and we carry out a follow-up check within a set period after re-homing.

The Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home Edinburgh
The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is a registered charity run by its Committee of Management and is a member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes. We are one of the few independent homes in Scotland taking in many hundreds of stray and unwanted dogs and cats every year. Stray animals come to us via the police, local authority dog wardens, SSPCA Inspectors and members of the public. The Home has an excellent record of returning lost or stray animals to their rightful owners and also for finding suitable new homes for those animals whose owners no longer want them or are unable to keep them for whatever reason. Contrary to common belief, the Home does not destroy dogs or cats unless there is a compelling need to do so, e.g. incurable illness, extreme old age or very serious temperament faults. To support the work of caring for stray and unwanted dogs and cats, the Home also provides boarding facilities to a very high standard, with under floor heating in the kennels and warm air heating in the catteries. Many of our boarders come back time after time and are well known to our staff who welcome them back regularly for their annual holidays. Although administration costs are kept to the absolute minimum, it takes a great deal of money each year to care for animals and support from the public is essential. So please help us to help the animals.

Any Dog 'il Do Rescue Edinburgh/Perthshire/Dundee/Angus
We are a non profit organisation that relies completely on donations from adoptions and fundraising events so that we can ensure that a dog is healthy and up-to-date with vaccinations, neutered, given worm/flea treatment and that they are treated for any illnesses before rehoming. The rescue was set up because there has been an increase of animals being advertised 'free to good home' on many free ad sites and the necessary checks are not always being done and unfortunately many dogs do not end up in the 'loving environment' that many people are led to believe their pet is going to. The rescue is entirely staffed by volunteers who help co-ordinate all aspects of the work we do. We now have co-ordinators covering the Edinburgh/Perthshire/Borders areas and all areas within Scotland. If you would like to get involved please contact us! We desperately need foster homes. Providing foster care for a dog will certainly be a rewarding experience, but will also most be an emotionally challenging. Sending a successful foster to his forever home is bittersweet, you are saying goodbye to a friend, which hurts, but are also sending them on to a new life, a place where they will be cherished, loved and safe until they leave for rainbow bridge.
