Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary Gurney, Bristol Some of our rescues have been much-loved pets but changed circumstances have forced their owners to part with them. Others come to us as strays - unwanted and abandoned. Some come to us because their owners simply can't cope with them or they just don't want them anymore, sadly sometimes animals come to us because their owner has died and there is no one left to look after them. We also take try as many 'death row dogs' as we possibly can, from council run dog pounds across the country. Many sweet-natured loving animals find themselves facing destruction because they have not been claimed by their owners within the short time period of 7 days. These animals receive no veterinary care and many are in a poor state of health. Gill has been rescuing Border Collies for 8 years. Gill has rescued hundreds of dogs since the rescue started and she will not turn away any dog in need of her care. The love and companionship an animal gives can often be vital to a person's well-being. Since the Centre opened in 2001 many older pets have been able to enjoy the unique facilities it has to offer. The elderly pet owner can rest assured that, when the times comes, the National Animal Welfare Trust will look after their special "friend". Stokenchurch Dog Rescue Stokenchurch, Bucks Stokenchurch dog rescue (formerly known as The Dog Rescue and Welfare Society) was originally formed by local residents in 1963 to save the lives of stray and unwanted dogs, as well as those impounded by the Police. Since then many thousands of dogs have been brought to us and have been successfully re-homed. And, although the Police no longer take in 'lost' pets, we still provide this invaluable service to pet owners until they can be reunited with their much loved canine family member once again. We never destroy a healthy dog, believing that somewhere there is a kind and permanent home for every dog. We also take in and care for the sick, the old and the traumatised, and no dog in need is ever refused our help. A large percentage of people looking to help a rescue dog will want a Spaniel a Labrador a small dog or a Collie type. The plain crossbreed, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the large dog will all be bottom of most peoples list or not even make that list. This appeal is a push for that dog, the one people will pass and not even give a second glance to, the one who if you saw a picture of you would quickly pass over, the one who may not have the looks but the nature that would just be perfect for you.

Canine Crusaders Camborne, Cornwall Canine Crusaders was founded in February 2002 to try to improve dog welfare in Cornwall, and help reduce the number of dogs going needlessly into rescue. It is heartbreaking, and unbelievably frustrating to have so many requests for help and know that we can only tackle a tiny proportion, due to lack of funds, facilities and resources. We do what we can, but of course it isn't anywhere near enough. Every day we are asked to help between one and eight dogs. We have no kennels, so we rehome either by keeping the dogs in their existing homes or, if that isn't possible, using suitable foster homes as temporary holding points. All homes are fully checked, and full support is given. In some cases, we use local boarding kennels until the right home can be found for a dog. We are asked to take in strays, too, so we are always on the lookout for more foster homes. Fostering is a hugely rewarding, two-way process, with both dogs and foster carers benefitting from the experience. We do NOT have kennels at present. Animal Rescue Cumbria Near Kendal, Cumbria Animal Rescue Cumbria is staffed by a small team of able and dedicated professional carers, who are supplemented by equally dedicated volunteers. We take in and rescue cats and dogs and find them, wherever possible, suitable new homes. We get animals in for all sorts of reasons, from stray and abandoned to people moving house and unable to take them. Our kennel block holds ten dogs and we have two isolation kennels, the dogs have free running exercise five times a day in our secure field. We can take in a lot more cats and in the summer we are inundated with pregnant cats and un-wanted litters of kittens. Each cat/kitten pen has heating and an exercise area and the main cattery having its very own cat conservatory where cats can enjoy some exercise and sleep in the sun! The South West German Shepherd Dog Rescue do not have any kennels, all the rescued dogs are fostered in private homes all across the country. We have so many dogs in need and we are now running out of foster homes to place them in. You can help by either adopting a dog or fostering a dog. Your help can make a massive difference, we do not want to start turning dogs away just because we have no homes to place them in. Fostering a dog is so rewarding and it will not cost you a penny only your time and we ask you keep the dog safe, walk and feed it. We will do the rest. The rescue pays ALL the veterinary bills and the food. To foster a dog please complete and send the online adoption form. After a short while you will be contacted by a SWGSDR representative to arrange a home visit. This is a basic home check just to meet you and to make sure that your garden is secure. We are not there to snoop so please do not let this put you off. There will be a few questions we will need to ask you but this is just to make sure that we place the right dog in the right home. Even if you have dogs, you can still foster. You can also use this time to ask questions or concerns you may have. Once the home check has been completed, a decision will be made and you will be notified if you are successful. We will then match up the right dog for you and arrange the delivery/collection. Animals come to the Rescue Centre for a variety of reasons including bereavement, illness, relationship breakdown, financial reasons and sadly, cruelty and neglect. The policy of the Charity is never to turn away an animal in distress and never to have an animal put to sleep unless, on veterinary advice, it is too ill or dangerous to be re-homed. Every effort is taken to ensure that prospective owners find the right pet for them. Normally home checks are carried out by volunteer home visitors before any animal leaves the Centre followed by a further check weeks later to ensure all is well. Pound Puppy Animal Rescue Poole, Dorset When Jayne discovered that puppies born in council pounds were being killed because they could not find homes for them she setup Pound Puppy Rescue. Having rescued the puppies she could not leave the hundreds of adult/ancient dogs and cats, and the kittens at the pounds to die just because they did not have a home to go to. Then she found that breeders would kill their rejects so she took those in too. AND then there are the other animals! We do not have a 'rescue centre'. The pets stay in foster homes looked after by our volunteers in the area around Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth, Dorset until they find a suitable home. Hundreds of healthy dogs are being killed in Wales and Yorkshire every week for want of a home. Foster Homes Wanted for Dogs and Puppies: We need people to look after dogs for a short while so that we can assess them before moving them to permanent homes. If we have nowhere to put the dogs we have to leave them at the pound - we do not have our own kennels. We prefer you to live in the area of Bournemouth, Poole, or Weymouth, Dorset, so that you are near our vet but we are currently looking for foster homes in the Newbury, Swindon, Chippenham, Andover and Basingstoke areas. You should be in most of the day so the dog it not left alone for long periods. You should not be house proud as dogs can shed hair, bring in mud, and may not be completely house trained. Basset Hound Welfare Dorset contact Basset Hound Welfare is an independent rescue and welfare charity for all Basset Hounds. Our objective is the resettlement of unwanted Basset Hounds and the counselling of owners who experience difficulties with their hounds. We aim to provide loving and permanent homes for those Basset Hounds whose owners, for whatever reason, can no longer keep them. They, the dispossessed, will need patience, love and security. Dorset Greyhound Rescue Weymouth, Dorset Dorset Greyhound Rescue is based in Weymouth, however we are a sister branch of Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue in Maldon, Essex. All our dogs go to Clarks Farm in the first instance where they will be assessed and recieve all/any veterinary treatment required (including neutering, vaccinations and microchipping). All dogs featured on this website are available for rehoming from both Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue and Dorset Greyhound Rescue. All our dogs are neutered, micro-chipped, innoculated and have 4 weeks free pet insurance. They also come with a leather collar and lead, muzzle and bowl. All our greyhounds are assessed prior to being homed and we always try to ensure that we match the right dog to the right home environment.
